| 2nd Brigade Combat Team spouses become Warriors in ... ‘Jane Wayne Day’
By Spc. Sean Kimmons Assistant editor
More than 130 spouses of the 2nd Brigade Warriors Combat Team braved their spouses' daily routines during Jane Wayne Day on Schofield Barracks June 18. "I'm out here in support of my husband," said Joann Martinez, spouse of Spc. Inez Martinez, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment. "I want to see what he does everyday and why he comes home tired." The Jane Wayne Day started with physical training at 6:30 a.m. at Gimlet Field. Spouses then enjoyed breakfast at the 2nd Bde. dining facility, before loading up on tactical vehicles to the Air Assault obstacle course on East Range. The fear of heights was in check for the next event - rappelling at the Air Assault School. In the afternoon, spouses headed back onto the vehicles to Stoneman Field for capture the flag using MILES gear. Strike House was next, where spouses practiced rifle marksmanship on computer-generated targets. The Leadership Reaction Course was after that. Spouses then ended the eventful day with a two-mile road march to Sills Field. Eagerness and determination appeared on the faces of spouses before events. This was one of the ways to know that they were ready and willing to participate. Amber Rose, spouse of Staff Sgt. Chris Rose, HHC, 1st Bn., 14th Inf. Rgt. wanted to take part in the Jane Wayne Day to become familiar with her husband's job. "I wanted to see what he does, so I can get a better understanding where he's coming from in his everyday life," she said. Chris also thought the same way. "She can understand what I do everyday and see what we have to endure by wearing our equipment, rappelling, PT, etc.," he said. Col. Lloyd Miles, 2nd Bde. commander, had his wife joining the other spouses too and said, "I think (Jane Wayne Day) gives them an appreciation for what their husbands do on a daily basis." Appreciating and understanding were two things that Jane Wayne Day was intended to do. "It makes the whole Army-family team closer as a unit," said Sgt. 1st Class Tim Foster, HHC, 1st Bn., 27th Inf. Rgt., S-3 noncommissioned officer in charge. "It builds on that bonding by showing spouses what their husbands do." |
