IBANO TRAINING AREA, Japan - "Do you think they can survive without us?" asked Staff Sgt. Raymond Harrison, operations NCO, 17th Intermediate Support Base, as he and his troops load rations dropped by the Air Force in a joint training exercise. Two Air Force aircraft dropped 10 skids of rations carrying 480 cases of Meals, Ready To Eat for 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Soldiers participating in Keen Sword here.
The joint Army and Air Force exercise included a Containerized Delivery System drop, which gives Soldiers the opportunity to navigate the area and retrieve supplies while the Air Force gets the chance to practice air drops.
Army Capt. Hashem Bayatpoor, support officer-in-charge, 17th Intermediate Support Base, said this is an excellent opportunity for the Army to work with the Air Force and learn the skills necessary for recovering rations and equipment, as well as navigating the land and using communications and support skills.
