Wolfhounds read to elementary students

Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment participated in the Read Across America program March 4 at Mililani Uka Elementary School, where Soldiers got their chance to read books to children and interact with elementary students.

"This is an outreach program and shows that the Army supports the community, because if we don’t support the community than who are we fighting for?" said Spc. Victor Marshall, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, supply.

"We look forward to this [Read Across America program] every year," said Vikki Wong-Webb, Mililani Uka Elementary School, coordinator. "The kids are always interested in what the Army does and are always asking questions."

According to 1st Lt. Darius Ervin, HHC, 2nd Bn., 27th Inf. Rgt, intelligence officer, one student asked him a question of why the Army changed to the black beret. So the students are up to speed on current events, Ervin added.

During the program there were 17 Soldiers who read to 34 classrooms, two classrooms per Soldier. This was another way 2nd Bn., 27th Inf. Rgt. were doing their part in the school partnership with Mililani Uka Elementary School.

"The Wolfhounds are great," said Penny Mau, Mililani Uka Elementary School principal. "We always get 200 percent from them."
