9 April 2004

Dear friends and families of the Wolfhounds:

It is late April in Afghanistan.  The Wolfhounds have been here for a month, but already your Wolfhounds are making a difference.

It is spring here and the Afghan people are attempting to farm this arid land.  It is a hard task but the Afghan people are tenacious.  We are helping.  We carry rifles but we also deliver seed and farm equipment to the local villages to assist them in feeding their families.

All is not bad here—just hard.  By helping the Afghan people we are building stability in Afghanistan.  They are planting potato seeds but we are laying the seeds of lasting peace one person and one village at a time.

Our living conditions are good but communications are difficult.  I encourage all of you to write letters—nothing boost the morale of a Wolfhound more than a letter from home.

Your Wolfhounds are proud to serve and proud to be doing their part in the war on Terrorism.

We miss you.

God Bless the USA!

W. P.

Update, 26 March 2004:

Wanted to give you an update on the deployment of 2-27 to Afghanistan:

Currently, 1/3 of the battalion is on the ground in Afghanistan conducting a relief in place with a battalion from 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division.  The rest of the battalion is in the process of flowing into country and we hope to have the entire battalion closed in soon.  Once the relief in place is complete, we will be established in forward operating bases in southeastern Afghanistan.  All is going well and the Wolfhounds are excited about the opportunity to make an impact on the war on terrorism while at the same time making a difference in Afghanistan.

Once we are established we will be sending out a monthly newsletter that updates our activities here including pictures of the basecamps and some of the different operations that we are conducting.   Thanks for your support.
