Scouting and Working Parties

Scouting parties from Parang in March, 1902: 
Mar 5th-Col. Baldwin and Captain Nuttman, to Cottabato and return (26 miles) with Band. 
Mar. 10th-Second Lieutenant K. L. Pepper, from Paraug to Malabang (4 miles) with 8 men of Company "C". Scouting for seven days. 
Mar. 18th-Major Chubb, Lieutenant Murphy and Dr. Gill scouted from Parang toward Lake Lanno with detachment of 33 men of Company "C". Distance 30 miles. 
Mar. 30th-Captain Moore, Lieutenant Fries and Lieutenant Mangum (15th Cav.) scouted northeast of Malabang, with 30 men of Company "B", 12 men of Company "D", and 12 men of Troop "A", 15th Cavalry. Recovered body of Private Lewis, killed by Moros, March 30th. April scouting parties and working parties on the trail: 
Apr. 4th-Companies "B" and "D", under Captain Moore, were fired upon while at work on the trail.
Apr. 6th-Reconnaissance party under Captain Moore to Baras. Company "F", under Captain Rogers, constituted the party.
Apr. 7th-Reconnaissance party made up of Company "'G", under Captain Phillips, went up the Ganassi Trail.

Movement of units during the summer and fall months of 1902:

May 4th-Companies "F", "F", "G" and "H" moved to Camp Vicars.
May 6th-Companies "B" and "D" moved to Camp Vicars.
May 6th-Company "H" left Camp Vicars and arrived at Malabang.
May 8th-Lient. Wilson, with 32 men of Company "H", marched to Camp No.2, on the Ganassi Trail, where they were
joined on May 12th by the balance of the company. Company "A" left Camp Vicars en route to Zamboanga, arriving May 12th. Company "D" left Camp Vicars enroute to Tucuran. arriving May 11th. 
May 12th-Captain Simonds with a detachment of 20 men of Company "M" made a tour of the Islands belonging to the Siasi district, on U. S. gunboat "Calmianes."
 
May l8th-Lieut. Bickham, with 25 men, Company "F", marched to Mikador (9 miles) and return, same day. 
May 21st-Captain Simonds, and 40 men of Company "M", sailed on U. S. gunboat "Quires" from Siasi to Island of Lugus to quell Moro disturbance. 
May 22nd-Company "H" moved from Camp No.2 to Camp No.3 and continued work on trail. 
May 27th-Captain Bonesteel, Lieut. Gracie and 11 men of Company "K" left Bongao on U. S. gunboat "Aroyat" for Sibutu. June 1st-Headquarters and Companies "B", "F", "F" and "G" marched to Fort Basak. Troops were tired on by Mucus during the night. 
June 5th-Company "B" left Camp Vicars and marched to Mataling Falls for temporary station. 
June 6th-Company "A" arrived at Malabang from Zamboanga, and next day marched to Mataling Falls for temporary station. June 7th-Third Battalion arrived at Malabang from Job, Siassi and Bongao, and after week in detention camp, Companies were camped along the Makador Trail. Company "K" remaining at Malabang. 
June 10th-Company "H" left Camp No.3 and marched 10 Camp Vicars. 
June 11th-Band left Parang for Camp Vicars. 
June 13th-Company "F" left Camp Vicars for Malabang. 
June 22nd-Detachment of Company "I" was attacked on trail by Moros. Wounded: Privates Willie Duvall and Joseph Richards. 
June 25th-Outpost of Company "M" killed two Moros who were approaching the camp stealthily. 
July 3rd-Company "M" left camp on the trail and marched to Camp Vicars, arriving July 4th. 16 miles. Company "K" left Malabang and marched to Camp No.7 on the Mikador Trail. Company "B" left Mataling Falls and marched to Malabang. 15 miles.
