VLADIVOSTOK, SIBERIA

Aug. 19-Regiment, less Companies "F" and "G", still quartered on transports. Property and equipment unloaded on docks in morning and loaded into freight cars. Property of expedition Q. M. unloaded by Regiment, due to inability of QM to secure civilian laborers. At 4:00 P.M. the Regiment, escorted by a company of Czech-Slovaks, paraded through the city, returning to transports after the parade. Aug. 2~Regiment disembarked from transports and went into temporary quarters in Vladivostok about three miles from the heart of the city (Companies "F" and "G" still guarding railroad stations). Property, including that of Expeditionary QM unloaded from freight cars by Regiment. 

Aug. 21-Regiment remained in its temporary quarters, working on flooring and preparation of freight cars for transporting of troops and property. (Companies "F" and "G" still guarding railroad stations.) 

Aug. 22-Regiment remained in its temporary quarters. Lt. Col. G. H. Williams, 24th Infantry, detached for duty as commander of base at Vladivostok. Captain R. E. Wallace, 27th Infantry, detached for duty on Line of Communications. Major Offut detached for duty as assistant to Expeditionary Surgeon. (Companies "F" and "G" still guarding railroad stations.) 

Aug. 23-Regiment, less Companies "F" and "G", remained in its temporary quarters. (Companies "F" and "G" still guarding railroad stations.) The 31st Infantry, commanded by Colonel F. H. Sargent, arrived about 5 :00 P.M. on board the U.S.A.T. "Sheridan," without animals or wagons. 27th Infantry wagons carried 31st Infantry property to temporary quarters provided for 3lst. About 5 :00 P.M. Czech-Slovaks turned over 500 enemy prisoners to Regiment. 

Aug. 24-31st Infantry relieved all 27th Infantry detachments performing guard duty, including the custody of enemy prisoners, and guard of railroad stations by Companies "F" and "G". Pursuant to verbal orders of General Otani, Imperial Japanese Army, Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies in Siberia, the Regiment prepared to entrain for the Ussuri front with Equipment "A". Much delay was experienced due to indifference and inefficiency of railroad officials. The Regiment, with the assistance of five officers of the R.R.S. [Russian Railroad Service], finally managed to start one section off at about 5 :00 P.M. This first section carried the Hq. Co., MG Co., and Companies "E" and "H", part of the Intelligence and Medical Detachments and part of the Supply Co. Companies "F" and "G" were picked up by this Section en route. The balance of the regiment remained in barracks at Vladivostok.
